Victorian Sterling Gilt & Amethyst Necklace
A stunning amethyst necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This fabulous piece is comprised of 24 large amethyst stones that are set in gilded sterling silver. The amethyst stones are faceted and oval in shape. They are each held in place by sterling prongs and have an open back. Each stone is handset and displays a beautiful vivid purple color and the facets catch the light wonderfully when worn. The piece fastens in the back with a push clasp hidden within one of the amethyst links. It's an outstanding piece and would make any collection complete!
Measurements: The length of the faceted amethyst necklace is approximately 17" long. The amethyst links range in size from 1/2" wide and 3/4" tall being the smallest to 5/8" wide and 7/8" tall being the largest.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gilded sterling setting. The clasp is secure and in good working condition. There are some natural inclusions in some of the amethyst stones, which is not unusual and not noticeable when worn. The stone within the clasp has a small surface chip, which is not visible when the piece is worn.
