WALTER LAMPL Art Deco 14kt Carved Jade Bird Bracelet
Walter Lampl was an ambitious New York City jeweler whose rags-to-riches story marked the beginnings of a successful career. At the age of 26, he opened a wholesale jewelry business in 1921, and eventually commissioned several female designers whose work he oversaw and and approved from page to product. His quality jewelry included colorful gemstone designs, unique charms, and popular pins. Multiple designs originated as gifts for his beloved wife Sylvia (whom he called "Toots"), later evolving into designs available to the rest of his clientele. His enthusiasm, charismatic personality, and humorous motto "Creators of the Unusual, As Usual" made him a much beloved man whose legacy extended far beyond the end of his life. Authentic vintage Walter Lampl pieces are still fashionable today and have become quite collectible!
This beautiful jade bracelet from the Art Deco era (ca1930s) is a wonderful example of Walter Lampl's work! This artistic piece is comprised of carved jade plaques that alternate with spacer beads, forming a lovely link bracelet set in 14kt gold. Each rectangular jade plaque is hand-carved with a wonderful bird motif, surrounded by shapely leaves, swirls, and cutout dots. The natural jade has a beautiful apple green color marbled with swirls of pale, milky white. Gold prongs grasp the plaques at each side, securing them to the framework underneath. In between each plaque are two strands of gold chain, each decorated with a smooth jade bead. The bracelet clasps with a gold push clasp, which is disguised below the final link. A safety chain with spring ring clasp provides additional security. On the underside of the clasp is Walter Lampl's "WL" hallmark beside a "14K" stamp. When worn, the bracelet makes a beautiful statement piece that would be right at home in any modern or vintage collection!
Measurements: The bracelet measures 7 1/2" long, and would fit nicely on a medium to large sized wrist. Each rectangular jade link measures 7/8" long, 5/8" wide, and 3/16" thick. Each spacer bead measures approximately 4mm in size.
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the yellow gold setting. The carved jade plaques and beads are intact, securely set, and free of any apparent chips or surface scratches. The push clasp and safety chain fasten securely and are in good working condition.
