A fantastic and unusual turquoise necklace from the Art Deco (ca1920) era! This bold and attractive piece is Chinese in origin, and comprised of a strand of round turquoise beads with a gorgeous hand-carved pendant at the center. The natural turquoise beads vary slightly in size and are symmetrically placed along the cord, in between ornate knotted "links" that form lovely floral-like shapes. The beads are strung on the original braided turquoise-colored thread and are hand-knotted and weaved in between. Hanging from the center is a complimentary hand-carved natural turquoise pendant which is rather substantial in size. The 3-dimensonal design has an open floral motif that perfectly reflects its Chinese origin, and dangles from an additional ornate knotted link, on a braided thread extension. The necklace features a beautiful array of turquoise matrix which is found within the beads as well as the pendant. Turquoise matrix refers to the dark veins that are commonly found in natural turquoise stones, which can be black, brown, or yellow, and create a marbled appearance sometimes referred to as "spider webbing." The generous length of the necklace allows it to be easily slipped on and off, no need for a clasp. A fabulous necklace, this simple yet classic piece is naturally beautiful and would make an artistic and colorful addition to any collection!
Measurements: The beaded necklace measures approximately 25.5" in length and the pendant hangs 2 3/4" long (including the extension). The beads range in size, with the largest measuring approximately 14mm and the smallest measuring 6mm. The pendant alone measures about 1 7/8" tall, 1 3/8" wide, and 1/2" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the beaded necklace and pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the carved turquoise beads or pendant and the original stringing is secure. Due to the delicate nature of the original stringing, extra care should be taken when wearing the necklace.
