An incredible faceted glass and carved celluloid necklace from the Art Deco (ca1920) era! Resting at the center of this wonderful piece is a fantastic pattern of gorgeous black glass rondelle beads flanked by ivory colored celluloid beaded discs, creating an eye-catching black and white design. The carved discs flank both sides of each rondelle bead, which are round and flat with a faceted edge that beautifully reflects the light with every turn. A delicate white bead spacer separates each glass and celluloid pairing, and finishing the center design is a smoothly polished black glass conical shaped bead at either end. An elegant pattern of faceted round black beads that alternate with delicate white beads form a row on either side of the centerpiece, finishing the colorful and eye-catching design. The beads are hand-strung on white thread and the necklace fastens at the back with a simple sterling silver spring ring clasp. This unique and funky necklace rests delicately along the neckline, and would make a fantastic addition to any collection!
Measurements: The necklace measures approximately 17" long. The glass rondelle beads at the center measure about 11mm in diameter and are 5mm thick. The round glass beads measure about 6mm in diameter.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the celluloid disc beads. There are some very minor scratches or nicks on the black glass beads but due to their dark color and faceted nature, they are barely noticeable when worn. The clasp is secure and in good working condition.
