A lovely French-made scatter pin set from the late Art Deco (ca1930s) era! This 2-piece set is comprised of a duo of complementary pins, both featuring a charming turtle motif. Crafted in .800 purity silver, the body's of the adorable reptiles are each portrayed by a single mother of pearl shell plaque which is oval in shape and exhibits bold, colorful iridescence. Four legs, a tail and a head, all accented by delicate sparkling marcasite stones, peek out from below each body and luscious faux rubies and emeralds represent their eyes. The underside of the pins reveal a silver frame and secure pin clasp which has several French hallmarks including 2 boar heads, representing .800 purity silver, and the makers mark "ML". It's an incredibly sweet scatter pin set and together, they would make a wonderful addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The turtle pins both measure approximately 1 1/4" tall, 3/4" wide and 1/4" in depth.
Condition: The overall condition of the set is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver setting. Both mother of pearl shells and all of the faux ruby, emerald and marcasite stones are intact and in good condition. The pin clasps fasten securely and are in good working order.
