Art Nouveau 14kt Diamond & Repousse Dragon Locket
An exquisite gold locket from the Art Nouveau (ca1890) era! This beautiful piece is made of vibrant 14kt yellow gold and has the wonderful repousse image of a whimsical dragon on the front. The image is intricately detailed, depicting a serpentine body with individual scales and a flowing tail. A delicate diamond represents its eye, and a larger diamond is grasped within its open mouth. The artistic detail is raised above the surface, giving the image a wonderful 3-dimensional quality. When opened, the interior of the locket reveals a glass-covered space to store a special photograph. A simple gold bail is attached to the top, perfect for hanging the piece from a favorite chain. This wonderful locket is beautifully made, and would make a special addition to any Art Nouveau collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 1 1/4" long (including the bail), has a 7/8" diameter, and is 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or repousse image. Both diamonds are intact and securely set. The locket opens easily and snaps securely shut, and the bail is securely attached. There is a natural patina on the surface of the gold setting, which is a normal characteristic of antique jewelry.
