A fabulous gold repousse locket from the Art Nouveau (ca1900s) era! Crafted in rich 14kt yellow gold, this lovely piece has the raised image of an alluringly beautiful woman within a natural landscape setting. The picture is intricately detailed with flowing locks of hair, that are accented by a single old Mine Cut diamond, a romantic expression on her face, and a soft scene in the background. The idyllic setting includes rippling water, blooming flowers and leaves and what appears to be fluffy clouds. The back of the locket has the hand engraved initials "DGL" written in fancy script and the surface of the gold has a wonderful natural patina which adds to the richness and depth to the image. The locket hangs from a simple bail, opening on the side to reveal 2 spaces for a special photograph. A beautiful work of art, this locket would look lovely worn alone or with other lockets and pendants!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 1 1/4" in length, is 1" wide and is a little more than 1/8" at the thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is great. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the gold setting. The locket closes easily and stays securely closed and the diamond is intact. There are several small indents on the back of the heart, however, because of their location, they are not visible when the locket is worn and facing forward; the repousse front of the locket remains in excellent condition and is free of any damage.
