Arts & Crafts Era Hungarian Gilt Gemstone Enamel Bracelet
A magnificent Austro-Hungarian bracelet from the Arts & Crafts (ca1910) period! Made of gilded sterling silver, this beautiful one-of-a-kind piece is very large in size and has an incredibly ornate design. At the center of the piece is a large flower-like design comprised of a variety of colorful materials. Resting in the middle is a bezel set star sapphire, which has a pale periwinkle color and shows a 6-point star in the light. Surrounding the star sapphire are white enameled petals painted with blue and red lots and lines. Rows of luscious rubies extend from the center, and lustrous pearls accent the outer edges of the 3-dimensional flower. The base of the bracelet is made of an exceptionally fine filigree wirework design with a floral motif, which wraps around the wrist. Completing the piece are beautiful natural blue zircons, garnet cabochons, and delicate rubies and pearls that are interspersed throughout the design. The bracelet is hinged in four places and opens at the back at a pin clasp, adorned with pearls. The attention to detail is superb, including a spectacular filigree design on the back of the silver gilt setting. This wonderfully elaborate and unusual piece is a wonderful example of traditional Austro Hungarian jewelry and would make a special statement piece!
Measurements: The inside of the bracelet (where a wrist would rest) measures 2 1/2" wide and 2 1/4" tall. The round centerpiece has a 2 3/4" diameter, and the sides of the bracelet (which wrap around your wrist) are 1 1/4" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling gilt setting or to the enamel and gemstones, all of which are intact. The hinges and pin clasp are secure and in good working condition.
