Art Nouveau Hand Carved & Painted Horn Flower Necklace
An artistic and very unusual necklace from the Art Nouveau (ca1910) era! This unique piece piece is made of hand-carved horn, forming the shape of an elaborate flower with flowing leaves at the base. The pendant is particularly large in size and wonderfully detailed, exhibiting carved texture on the front surface and hand painted accents that give vibrant color variation and dimension to the design. The carved horn is semi translucent and naturally has a soft pale yellow color. Dangling from the base of the pendant is a glass teardrop bead, which has a marbled appearance with rich orange and cherry red colors. The pendant hangs from a hand braided cord, and is accented with two small wooden beads and two matching glass beads. The generous length of the cord allows the necklace to slip easily on and off overhead, no need for a clasp. A marvelous and lightweight Art Nouveau piece, its unusual design has a very striking appearance when worn. It would make a special and one-of-a-kind addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The necklace measures approximately 36" long. The large flower pendant measures 2 3/4" tall and wide. The teardrop bead at the base hangs 1 1/4" long. The round glass beads each measure 12mm in size, and the small wooden beads are 5mm in size.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the carved and painted horn or to the glass and wood beads. The braided cord necklace shows some soft signs of wear, but remains in good condition.
