Art Nouveau Kirk Huge Sterling Repousse Cherub Motif Clip
This wonderful sterling silver clip is a beautiful example of Art Nouveau era (ca1890) repousse work! The clip is very substantial in size and has an ornate design with a lovely cherub motif. Elaborate swirls and scrolled detail decorate the borders, framing two sweet cherubs that are perched at the center. The repousse image is intricately detailed and gives wonderful depth and dimension to the design. The surface of the silver has a wonderful natural patina that adds to the richness and antique appeal of the piece. The underside of both piece is stamped "STERLING 2" and has a set of engraved monogrammed initials at the center. A beautiful work of art, this large clip has exceptional craftsmanship and would make a special addition to any antique sterling collection!
Measurements: The piece measures 3 1/2" tall and 2 1/4" wide. When opened, the clip leaves a 3/4" opening.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting or repousse design. The hinged clip function is very secure and in good working condition. There is a natural patina that gives a darkened patina to the surface of the silver. The patina is normal for an antique piece and adds depth to the design. However, it could be polished for a brighter look if desired.
