Art Nouveau Sterling & Rose Quartz Carved Scarab Ring
During the 19th century the discoveries of ancient archaeological finds influenced and brought on what is referred to as “archaeological revival” or "Egyptian revival" jewelry. The initial Egyptian Revival period flourished from the 1820's and was inspired by ancient Egyptian imagery such as the scarab beetle.
A fabulous Egyptian Revival scarab ring from the Art Nouveau (ca1910) era! This incredible piece, crafted in sterling silver, displays a fantastic hand carved rose quartz scarab beetle at its center. The bezel set stone has wonderful carved details and a soft rosy pink color with a translucent quality. The underside of the scarab reveals simple carvings that resemble hieroglyphics. At each shoulder is a gorgeous floral repousse motif, with roses and leaves depicted in applied wire details. The natural darkened patina accentuates the raised design and lovely texture. This wonderful and unique piece would make a lovely addition to any collection!
Measurements: The ring has a finger size of 5.50 but could easily be re-sized. The scarab beetle, measures a little under 5/8" wide, is approximately 1" long, and the ring sits approximately 3/8" above the finger when worn.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver setting or to the rose quartz stone which is secure and intact.
