CARL-ART Retro Gold-Filled/Sterling "DIEU VOUS GARDE" Bangle Bracelet
Carl-Art was founded in 1936 by Carl Schraysshuen and Arther Loercher in Providence, Rhode Island. Their company manufactured high end costume jewelry produced in sterling and gold-fill, as well as fine gold jewelry. During their thriving business boom, Carl-Art owned many patents, and also provided pieces and designs for other jewelers, including Walter Lampl. Their dedication to quality and attention to detail carried the business far, even beyond the lifetimes of both founders, until it eventually merged with Vargas in the 1980s, and was later acquired by Uncas in the 1990s. However, original Carl-Art pieces remain popular among vintage jewelry collectors!
This stylish gold-filled bangle bracelet by Carl-Art is a Retro era piece from the 1940s! The smooth, hollow gold-filled setting has been decorated with sterling silver letters, added in the modern day. The raised block letters add a wonderful mixed metals appeal, and spell the words "DIEU VOUS GARDE" (French for "God Protect You"). A small button opens the push clasp at the side, revealing a safety bar inside. Stamped along the bar is a gold-filled "1/20- 14K" purity mark, as well as the Carl-Art signature hallmark symbol (an arrow through the letters "CA"). A very versatile everyday piece, it could be stacked with other complimentary bangles, or worn alone. The style blends seamlessly into modern day fashion, and would make a fabulous addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The inside of the bracelet (where a wrist would rest) measures 2 1/4" wide and approximately 2 1/8" tall. It would fit nicely on a medium to large sized wrist. The surface of the bracelet is approximately 5/16" wide and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold-filled setting or raised sterling letters, all of which are intact. The push clasp fastens securely and is in good working condition.
