CARTER, HOWE & CO. Edwardian 14kt/Platinum Green Enamel Diamond Locket
A spectacular enamel locket from the Edwardian (ca1910) era! This beautiful piece was made by Newark, NJ maker Carter, Howe & Co. and is crafted in 14kt yellow and platinum. The locket displays a lovely and quite unusual colored green enamel surface which has an interesting 'cloudy' appearance. The unique jade green color covers the front and back surface and each side is framed by a double gold ring border. At the center of the design is an ornate platinum wirework design which is riveted into the front and accented by a sparkling old European Cut diamond. When opened, the locket reveals a removable round frame inside to store a special photograph and the hand engraved name "AUGUSTA SCHENFELD." The interior also bears the Carter, Howe & Co. arrow hallmark next to a "14K" stamp. The locket hangs from its original matching enameled bail, which is hinged, not loose. A lovely and feminine piece, this wonderful locket would make a special addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs slightly less than 1 1/2" long (including the bail), has a 1 1/4" diameter, and measures 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the enameled design, which is free of any significant chips or surface scratches. The platinum wirework and diamond design is intact and securely set and the locket opens easily and fastens securely shut.
