CARTIER Late Victorian Sterling Perfume Bottle Necklace
This charming perfume bottle necklace from the Late Victorian era (ca1900) is a signed piece by Cartier! Made of sterling silver, the bottle has a simple rectangular design with smooth, rounded corners. A raised image decorates the front surface in lovely 3-dimensional detail. The motif depicts a pineapple adorned with a flourished bow- a symbol of hospitality. The top of the sterling bottle unscrews easily, revealing a hollow interior where a favorite perfume would originally have been kept inside. Attached to the inside of the cap is a thin silver post, which serves as a dipper to catch a few small drops of the scent contained inside. The back of the bottle neck is stamped "CARTIER" and "STERLING" just below the cap. A silver chain is attached to either side of the bottle, fastening with a spring ring clasp in the back. This wonderful piece from a legendary maker would make a lovely and unusual addition to any collection!
Measurements: The necklace measures approximately 19.5" long. The perfume bottle itself measures 1 3/4" tall, 1" wide and 3/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides minimal normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting. The bottle topper screws on and off easily and securely. The chain is securely attached, and the spring ring clasp is in good working condition. There is a natural patina on the surface of the silver, which is normal for an antique piece.
