Early Victorian 18kt/Sterling Diamond Griffin & Skull Ring
A stunning skull and panther ring from the early Victorian (ca1850) era! This unusual piece has a striking presence crafted in 18kt yellow gold and sterling silver, portraying a 3-dimensional face of a snarling griffin holding a skull within its teeth. The panther head as well as the band of the ring are made of yellow gold and the skull is sterling silver and accented with 19 Rose Cut diamonds. Piercing fangs and slanted ears suggest an aggressive expression, and a single sparkling diamond represents the animal's eye. The gold band was made to resemble the body of the animal and the curling feline tail loops around the neck on the front of the ring. When worn, the ring makes a very bold statement piece, perfect for the fashion-forward woman's collection!
Measurement: The ring has a finger size 8, but it could be resized to some extent. The panther design at the center measures 5/8" wide and 5/8" tall. The gold band measures 5mm wide at the back.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold and sterling setting and all of the diamonds are intact.
