Edwardian 18kt & Silver Guilloché Enamel & Pearl Necklace
Guilloché (in English usually Guilloche) is an engraving technique in which a very precise, intricate pattern is mechanically etched in an underlying material with very fine detail. Most commonly, the Guilloché surface is then enameled and the repetitive, intricate design shows through the colorful enamel.
A lovely Guilloché enamel locket necklace from the Edwardian (ca1910) era! This wonderful piece is made of silver-topped 18kt yellow gold and is comprised of a gorgeous locket that hangs from a complimentary gold chain. The surface of the locket displays a beautiful enameled design with delicate pink roses and green leaves that rest atop a pale blue background. The flower in the center is encircled by a pale pink border, and three gold dots on the outer border add a finishing touch. Beneath the enamel is an exquisite Guilloché design that creates lacy waves, giving the design a gorgeous texture. Dangling freely from the bottom of the piece is a lustrous white teardrop pearl. The back of the piece has a gold surface with a round cutout center, where a special photograph can be stored behind a glass frame. The gold shows a natural patina that gives the piece an antiqued look, but it could be polished if desired. At the top of the pendant are two strands of fine gold cable chain, which meet at a bezel set pearl and then separate, fastening at a simple gold spring ring clasp in the back. This gorgeous and feminine necklace looks stunning when worn and would make a wonderful keepsake piece for any collection!
Measurements: The locket has a 1" diameter and is 3/16" thick. The pendant hangs 2" long from where the chain meets the pearl to the bottom of the pearl dangling from the bottom. The entire necklace measures 17" long. The glass locket frame on the back has a 1/2" diameter.
Condition: The overall condition of both the locket and chain is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver-topped gold and the enameled Guilloche surface is excellent condition. The glass locket frame is intact and in good condition, and both pearls are intact. The spring ring clasp on the chain is secure and in good working condition.
