Edwardian Sterling Ruby, Sapphire + Pearl Mermaid Pendant Necklace 22.5"
A very unique and whimsical pendant necklace from the Edwardian (ca1910) era! This wonderful piece is crafted in sterling silver with applied gold details, and depicts a beautiful mermaid pendant which hangs from an ornate link chain. The 3-dimensional pendant is intricately detailed featuring flowing curled locks of hair, a textured tail, a dramatic drop necklace around her neck and crashing waves curling up from below. The arms of the mermaid are outreached at her side, both cradling a vibrant gemstone, a ruby in one arm and a sapphire in the other, each set within a gold bezel. A natural pearl dangles from the bottom of the pendant, adding wonderful movement to the design.
The pendant hangs from a decorative wirework link chain, featuring two matching pairs of miniature versions of Renaissance era statues symmetrically placed throughout. Two of the 3-dimensional statues are replicas of the famous "David" by Michelangelo, and the other statues depict a person with outstretched arms, and beautifully draped fabric wrapped around the body. The chain consists of an alternating pattern of one elongated loop and two rings that connect together, fastening in the back with a spring ring clasp stamped with a "925" silver purity mark. This marvelous pendant necklace shows excellent craftsmanship and would make a lovely addition to any collection!
Measurements: The necklace measures approximately 22.5" long. The mermaid pendant hangs 1 3/8" long, measures 3/4" wide, and is slightly less than 1/4" thick. The miniature statues along the chain measure about 1 1/4" tall, 1/2" wide, and are 1/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant and necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold and sterling setting and the pearl, sapphire and ruby are intact and securely set. The chain and clasp are secure and in good working condition.
