GEORG JENSEN Huge Modernist Sterling Silver Heart Necklace
Renowned Danish silversmith Georg Jensen was born in 1866. His training in metalsmithing and his education in the Fine Arts enabled him to develop a successful career based in beautiful jewelry and silver design. His signature Art Nouveau style grew increasingly popular and Jensen became a world renowned artist. Although Jensen died in 1935, his pieces are still being created today using the same craftsmanship as when he was alive.
This fabulous vintage Modernist necklace (ca1960s) is a wonderful example of Georg Jensen's Mid Century work! Extremely substantial in both appearance and size, the necklace is hand crafted in sterling silver. It consists of a long bar link chain that attaches to a smooth "puffy" heart pendant. The chain does not have a clasp, but is long enough to slip easily on and off overhead. Stamped on the back of the heart are several hallmarks, including "925 S DENMARK," the serial number "126," and the signature "GEORG JENSEN" hallmark used between 1945 to the present. A very stylish statement piece by a celebrated maker, it would make a unique addition to any vintage jewelry collection!
Measurements: The chain measures approximately 32" in total length, with each individual bar link measuring 2 1/2" long. The large heart pendant measures 2 5/8" tall and wide, and is 1" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting.
