Georgian 15kt Handmade Chain & Wolf Head Clasp 20"
A very unusual gold chain from the late Georgian (ca1830) era! This handmade necklace is crafted in 15kt gold (indicating English origin), and is comprised of hollow interlocking rings that form a strand of chain links. The central links are oval in shape, and form an alternating pattern of smooth and textured loops. Delicate jump rings form a border of fine chain along the edges, finishing the piece beautifully. At the center of the necklace is a gold spring ring clasp, which fastens to a figural charm shaped like a wolf's head. The 3-dimensional wolf charm includes engraved details and delicate garnet cabochons for eyes. Thanks to the hollow link design, the chain is wonderfully lightweight, draping beautifully at the neckline when worn. A beautifully made Georgian piece, this unique antique treasure would make a special addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The entire length of the chain measures approximately 20" long, including the clasp. The chain itself measures 3/8" wide and 1/4" thick. The wolf head charm measures 1" long 3/8" wide, and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The chain is in excellent Georgian condition. There are normal signs of surface wear that are commensurate with age, and indicative of the nature of Georgian jewelry. The links display some variance in precise size and shape, due to their handmade nature. Some of the links have small dents, which are minor and unnoticeable when worn; a single link near the clasp has a tiny hole on the back. The clasp fastens securely and is in good working condition. Jewelry of this era should be handled and worn with care.
