Late Victorian 10kt Gold Mermaid Signet Ring
A signet ring can be represented by a smooth or engraved seal, or with an intaglio, which is created by carving into the surface of a stone. Its purpose would have been to seal the wax of a letter or note.
A stunning gold signet ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This ring, which is made of 10kt yellow gold, has an oval-shaped face and decorative setting. The surface of the seal is plain, allowing one to add their own engraved initials or simply leave it smooth. On each side of the signet is a romantic figural mermaid, including intricate detail depicting her flowing hair, curved body, and scaled tail that wraps around the back of the band. Two fish accent the edges of the ring, completing the mythological sea-inspired design. Stamped inside the ring is "10K" along with a maker's hallmark. The size and design of the ring would look fabulous worn by a man or woman. A beautiful Victorian design, it would make a special addition to any collection!
Measurements: The signet stamp measures 1/2" tall and 3/8” wide. The ring has a large finger size 8.75, but could easily be resized.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting.
