Retro 18kt Enameled Moveable Sailor's Compass Pendant
A fabulous sailor's compass pendant from the Retro (ca1940) era! This unusual nautical-inspired piece is made of 18kt white and yellow gold, and features a moveable compass that rests in the center of an enameled bezel setting. The enamel design that surrounds the compass features nine colorful signal flags, each of which has a particular meaning when used as single-flag signals, or in a sailing racecourse. Interspersed within the flags are three yellow gold screw-shaped accents. The moveable compass has a black background with white and green directional letters. A white gold bezel holds the enameled compass in place, and the back of the piece has a smooth, yellow gold surface. At the top of the piece is a spinning yellow gold bail, which is stamped "750" along with a maker's hallmark. A very attractive everyday piece, it would look fantastic worn on a gold chain, and would make a fashionable addition to any collection!
Measurements: The pendant hangs 1 3/8" long, has a 1" diameter and is has a depth of 3/8" at the thickest point. The compass itself has a 5/8" diameter.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. The compass is in working condition, and besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the white and yellow gold setting or enameled details.
