TOSHIKANE Vintage Silver & Porcelain "Seven Lucky Gods" Bracelet
The Seven Lucky Gods are a special part of Japanese mythology and folklore. Believed to bring good fortune, each of the seven gods represents a different offering or gift. Throughout history, they have been depicted in unique works of jewelry such as bracelets and necklaces, which are often hand-carved from a variety of natural materials or crafted in hand-painted porcelain. Artistic representations of the Seven Lucky Gods continue to be popular today, and antique pieces are particularly sought after for their rarity and craftsmanship.
Toshikane was a Japanese company from Arita, Japan that fabricated porcelain buttons, jewelry, and other ceramic pieces, dating back to as early as the 1940's. Each Toshikane design has a distinctly Japanese look and feel, incorporating elements such as Asian fans, the Seven Lucky Gods, and exotic bird and flower designs into the work. Usually set in silver, the porcelain pieces are intricately hand painted in a variety of vibrant colors. Because they are no longer fabricated, Toshikane pieces are now a rare find and are highly collectible.
This wonderful Seven Lucky Gods bracelet is a vintage Toshikane design! An unusual artisan piece, the bracelet is comprised of seven individual links, each representing one of the individual Japanese Seven Lucky Gods. The 3-dimensional plaques are made of porcelain set in silver. Incredible hand-painted details give depth and color to each link, including facial features, decorative clothing, and elaborate headdresses. The links are connected by short strands of silver chain, forming a straight but flexible design that wraps comfortably around the wrist. The piece fastens together with a simple push clasp, and a safety chain provides additional security when worn. The clasp is stamped "SILVER" and "TOSHIKANE JAPAN" on the back. A very unusual and collectible piece, it would make a special addition to any collection!
Measurements: The bracelet measures approximately 7 5/8" long, and would fit nicely on a medium/average to large sized wrist. Each porcelain link measures approximately 3/4" wide and tall, and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver setting or to the hand-painted porcelain links, which are free of chips or scratches. The push clasp and safety chain are both secure and in good working condition.
