UDALL & BALLOU 14kt Rock Crystal Sapphire Cufflink Set
Udall & Ballou was a fine jewelry company founded in 1888 in New York, which rose to prosperous recognition during the Art Deco era. They contributed a selection of items to display at the 1939 World's Fair, and throughout the 1930s their style was recognized as part of the famous "flower style." Their beautiful designs have been described as "abstract" and "architectural," while retaining superior craftsmanship. Although they closed during World War II due to financial hardship, their high quality pieces are still valued by collectors and worn in the modern day!
A beautiful Udall & Ballou cufflink set from the Art Deco (ca1920) era! This wonderful 5-piece set is comprised of a pair of cufflinks and 3 shirt studs, a complete men's set. The cufflinks are double-sided and have a square plaque face made of carved rock quartz crystal. Resting in the center of each rock crystal plaque is a single sapphire sugarloaf cabochon. The three shirt studs carry a matching deep blue sapphire and rock crystal design in a smaller size. Connecting the cufflinks is a 14kt yellow gold bar link, while a gold hinged pin rests on the back of each stud. Each shirt stud is hallmarked with the initials "U&B" on the gold pin. The set comes in its original cream colored "Udall and Ballou" box with a velvet interior as shown. A simply stunning set, it would look fantastic worn by a distinguished gentleman!
Measurements: The face of each cufflink measures 1/2" and is 1/16" thick. The space in between each cufflink measures 7/8" long. The face of each shirt stud measures slightly more than 1/4" and its pin measures 1 1/4" long.
Condition: The overall condition of the set is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the yellow gold setting or to the rock crystal plaques, and the sapphire cabochons are intact. The custom box shows some normal signs of wear due to age, but is still in good condition and shuts securely.
