Victorian 14kt Inlaid Gold Quartz & Lapis Saber Sword Necklace 16"

SKU: 34013

Gold-in-quartz was formed while the earth was still in its molten state. During the cooling and solidification process, veins of gold became trapped with the crystals of quartz in the mine. This created a very dramatic contrast between the white quartz and the yellow of the gold. Jewelry made from gold quartz became quite a fashion statement of the 1880's. During the Gold Rush era in the American West, most of the gold quartz was mined in California around the San Francisco area.

A wonderful gold quartz necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Originally an antique brooch, the piece has been expertly converted into a stylish pendant that hangs from a chain. Crafted in 14kt gold, this unusual piece is substantial in size, and forms the shape of a saber sword. The sword has a curved single-edged blade, just like a real saber, which comes to a sharp point at the tip. A series of gold quartz stones are inlaid into the surface, each stone precisely cut and fitted seamlessly into place. The gold quartz displays a beautiful range of pale grey and earthy reddish shades marbled gold flecks throughout. Decorating the handle of the saber are three royal blue lapis stones, which provide a wonderful color contrast. Attached to each side of the pendant is a fine gold chain, which fastens with a gold spring ring clasp in the back. A wonderful statement piece, it would make a unique addition to any antique collection!

Measurements: The necklace measures 16" long. The saber pendant measures 3" long, 1/2" at the widest point, and 1/8" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. All of the inlaid gold quartz and lapis stones are intact and free of chips or surface scratches. The spring ring clasp fastens securely.
