Victorian 14kt Folding 6-Photo Engraved Locket
This unique multi-photo locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era is a very special, one-of-a-kind piece! Made of 14kt rosy yellow gold, this rectangular shaped piece has an unusual and creative design. The locket itself is beautiful yet inconspicuous as it simply looks like a classic Victorian locket. Rectangular in shape, the front adorns the ornate hand engraved initials "LF" which layer and intertwine beautifully. Two shell-like flaps appear from the bottom, allowing you to easily open the center of the locket. When opened, the folding multi-picture mechanism is revealed. Inside is a place for 6 individual pictures, all of which are set within a gold frame, making the locket a wearable miniature photo album. Stamped on the inside of one of the gold frames is the marking "PAT D MARCH 28 1876 CK&Co" and the picture locket hangs from hinged bail. It's a very remarkable and unusual keepsake piece that would make a delightful addition to any collection!
Measurements: When closed, the locket measures a little more than 1 1/2" tall, is 5/8" wide and 1/2" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or hinged bail. The hinged folding function is in good working order, and the arm clasps fasten securely. One of the interior glass faces has been replaced with a plastic face, which is not unusual for a piece from this period, nor does it detract from its beauty.
