Victorian 15kt Garnet & Diamond Beetle Pin
A wonderful gemstone beetle pin from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This detailed piece is made of 15kt yellow gold (indicating English origin) and has a 3-dimensional design. A large garnet cabochon stone forms the lower half of its body, while the upper half is encrusted with rows of delicate old Rose Cut diamonds. Two curled antennae sprout out of the top of the head, and six curved legs peek out from the underside of the bug. On the underside of the pin is a smooth gold setting and a secure bar pin with a c-catch clasp. This delightful piece is a wonderful example of Victorian era insect-inspired jewelry. It would make a special addition to any collection!
Measurements: The pin measures approximately 1" long, slightly over 1/2" wide, and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pin is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the garnet and diamond stones, all of which are intact. There is a chip in one of the small cabochon stones depicting the bug's eyes, which does not detract from the overall beauty of the piece. The pin clasp is secure and in good working condition.
