Victorian 15kt Rock Quartz Crystal & Black Opal Insect Pendant
A simply outstanding opal insect pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This impressive piece features a smooth rock quartz crystal plaque held within a decorative 15kt gold bezel frame. Riveted into the center of the rock crystal plaque is a 3-dimensional bug that resembles a fly. Its wings and entire body are depicted by beautiful black opal cabochons, which have incredible iridescent properties! The vibrant shades of violet, green, blue, and pink flash and shimmer when turned in the light, almost appearing to glow from within. Six bend gold legs peak out from underneath the bug, which is riveted securely into the center of the crystal. The gold bezel is decorated with very fine Etruscan wirework twisted ropes, which add wonderful texture to the piece. At the top of the pendant is a complimentary gold bail, which would look lovely with a favorite chain. A fantastic Victorian piece, it would make an incredible addition to any antique jewelry collection!
Measurements: The pendant hangs 2 3/8" long, including the bail. The oval rock quartz crystal plaque and surrounding gold bezel measures 1 7/8" tall, 1 1/2" wide, and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the rock quartz crystal plaque. The gold bug and opal stones are all intact, and the bail is secure and in good working condition.
