Victorian 1880 Liberty Head Half Eagle Gold Coin Pendant
A wonderful Victorian era collectible coin pendant from the year 1880! The Liberty Head Half Eagle gold coin was a form of United States currency, originally given an assigned value of $5.00 USD before it was eventually discontinued. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the coin features the head of Lady Liberty on one side, which is shown in profile with the word "LIBERTY" lining her headpiece. The year "1880" appears below. The opposite side of the coin shows an emblematic eagle below a banner that reads "IN GOD WE TRUST". Surrounding the outside of the design are the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "FIVE D." The gold coin is held within a ridged open bezel setting with a simple gold ring for hanging at the top. A lovely collectible piece, it would look perfect worn on a gold chain and would appeal to any history lover or coin collector!
Measurements: The pendant hangs 1 1/4" long (including the bail) and has a 7/8" diameter. The overall pennyweight of the piece is 6.2 dwt.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the coin itself or to the gold bezel and ring for hanging, both of which are secure.
