Victorian 18kt Carved Ivory & Ebony Blackamoor Pendant
A wonderful and usual blackamoor pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This large and artistic piece is made of hand-carved ebony, which depicts a detailed face in a three-dimensional design. The carved figure includes glass eyes, textured detail representing hair, and realistic facial features. At the top of the figure's head is a large ivory headdress, which is hand carved to resemble a band of fabric that has been tied and knotted at the forehead. Completing the design is a vibrant 18kt yellow gold cap at the neck, and a large gold bail at the top, making pendant easy to hang and wear from a chain. Blackamoor jewelry has become very collectable and this incredible pendant is simply exceptional. A wonderful antique piece, it would make a special addition to any collection!
Measurements: The pendant hangs 2 1/2" long, is 7/8" wide, and 1 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to gold setting, the carved ivory or to the carved blackamoor face.
