Victorian 18kt Natural Coral Hoop Earrings
A fantastic and unusual pair of coral hoop earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Most likely of Italian origin, each earring forms a large hoop design comprised of vibrant natural coral beads. Dangling in the center of each hoop is a single coral bead that swings freely. The un-dyed coral has a wonderful, rich color and semi-matte surface, creating a magnificent contrast with the 18kt gold setting. At the top of each hoop is a gold bar attachment, which is decorated with a wrapped Etruscan rope design. The earrings fasten with gold clasped wires for secure wear. Despite their substantial size, these stunning are very light in weight and remain in beautiful condition. They would make a special addition to any collection!
Measurements: Each earring hangs approximately 1 1/2" long, measures 1 1/4" wide, and is 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the coral beads, which are intact. One coral bead has a very fine hole drilled into one side, which may indicate it was previously strung on a different piece. The clasped earring wires are secure and in good condition.
