Victorian 14kt Bloodstone Family Crest Intaglio Ring
The opposite of a cameo, an intaglio is created by carving below the surface to produce an image in relief with the purpose of pressing into sealing wax, often used in signet rings.
An absolutely fantastic intaglio signet ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This lovely piece is made of 14kt rosy yellow gold and an attractive oval shaped bloodstone agate intaglio is held within the center. The hand carved image is of an incredibly ornate family crest and surrounding the bloodstone is a gold beveled frame. The mounting of the ring has a graduated band which rests comfortably on the finger when worn. It's a very handsome piece that would make a fabulous addition to any collection.
Measurements: The ring has a finger size of 8.5, but could be easily resized.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold or to the bloodstone intaglio which is intact.
