An exquisite shark's tooth necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This gorgeous and unusual piece is crafted in 9kt yellow gold and displays 21 genuine fossilized shark's tooth pendants which hang in a festoon style from a simple Victorian chain. The shark's teeth vary slightly in size, shape, type and color with the largest towards the center and each carrying a rich earthy hue. They hang individually from the chain by a curled gold wire which wraps around the top of each tooth and twists at the top to form a bail. The necklace fastens at the back at a modern gold-filled spring clasp which is stamped "1/20", "12KT." A truly gorgeous and unique piece, this wonderful necklace looks stunning when worn and would make a fantastic addition to any collection!
Measurements: The chain measures 16.5" in length. The larger, center shark's tooth pendant hangs 7/8" long (including the bail) and is 1/2" wide; the outer, smaller shark's teeth hang 5/8" long and measure slightly more than 1/4" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold wirework or chain and all of the shark's teeth are secure and intact. The clasp fastens securely and is in good working condition.
