Victorian Dramatic Large Teardrop Tortoise Shell Earrings
Now a banned material, antique tortoise shell jewelry has become very collectible. These carved tortoise shell earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era are particularly fabulous! Each begins with a 14kt yellow gold earring wire which attaches to a single, tortoise shell bead topper. Dangling below is an elongated tortoise link which is very long in length, creating a dramatic look when worn. The drop link is capped with an ornate textured gold top, as is the top and bottom of the bead surmount, each riveted into the surface of the earrings. The tortoise shell has a rich, deep brown color with light amber and caramel hues that are visible throughout. Despite their substantial size, the earrings are lightweight and comfortable to wear. They look fantastic when worn and would make a special addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The earrings hang approximately 4" long, are 5/8" at the widest point, and 1/2" thick at their deepest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the carved tortoise shell, and the gold caps and earring wires are intact and in good condition.
