A wonderful starburst locket from the Victorian (ca1887) era! English in origin, the piece is made of sterling silver, and features an embossed 8-point starburst design that graces the front surface. The starburst is comprised of faceted silver studs that resemble the appearance of cut steel jewelry. On the reverse side of the locket is a beautiful hand-engraved floral motif, complete with blooming petals and leaves. When opened, the locket reveals space to store two special photographs inside, behind fitted glass frames. A few English hallmarks stamped on the back of the locket near the bottom, including the date letter "b," (dating the piece to 1887), a Birmingham anchor, and a lion. The locket hangs from a large fluted bail at the top, which is also stamped with a small lion hallmark on the front. A beautiful example of Victorian era jewelry, this locket would make a special keepsake addition to any collection!

Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 2 1/2" long, including the bail at the top. The locket itself is about 1 3/4" tall, 1 3/8" wide, and 1/2" thick.

Condition: The locket is in excellent antique condition. There is some light normal surface wear, including two tiny puncture holes in one of the raised studs, but no significant damage. The hinge and bail remain secure and in good working condition. Both glass locket frames are intact and free of scratches. There is a natural patina present within the grooves of the design, which is normal for a Victorian era piece and adds depth to the appearance.
