Victorian French 18kt Pearl & Gemstone Poodle Dog Pendant
A wonderful gold dog pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This lovely piece is French in origin and depicts a charming dog, which resembles a poodle or other similar breed. The dog's head, legs, and tail are crafted in 18kt yellow gold, and its body is represented by a large natural pearl. It is depicted in a seated position, resting on its hind legs while looking obediently ahead, its tail curled behind. The gold setting is detailed with a textured surface to create the look of real fur, and its lifelike design includes floppy ears, a mustached muzzle, and small paws with puffed fur groomed at the ankles. A collar is wrapped around its neck, decorated with a row of delicate blue sapphires. Completing the design are two red cabochon stones depicting each of its eyes. The shimmery white pearl has a wonderful natural luster and is perfectly incorporated into the design! At the top of the piece is a gold ring to hang from a chain, which is stamped with a small French hallmark. This creative and whimsical piece is perfect for any dog lover and would make a special addition to any collection!
Measurements: The pendant hangs 1 1/4" long, including the ring for hanging. The dog itself measures approximately 1" tall, is 3/8" wide from the front, and 3/4" wide from the side, including the tail. The total pennyweight of the piece is 4.6 dwt.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or natural pearl, and all of the accent gemstones are intact. The bail for hanging is secure and in good condition.
