Victorian Hand Carved Tortoise Shell Earring & Pin Set
Now a banned material, antique tortoise shell jewelry has become very collectable. This hand-carved earring and pin set from the Victorian era (ca1880) is a wonderful example! Each earring is comprised of three front-facing hoops that meet at a tortoise link at the top. They hang from modern clasped earring wires that are attached to carved tortoise shell cube surmounts. The pin has a complimentary design formed by three hoops that hang from a wide crescent design. A pin clasp on the back allows it to be easily fastened to a favorite garment. The tortoise shell has a wonderful, rich brown color with hues of caramels and ambers visible throughout. Despite the substantial design of each piece, the tortoise shell is incredibly lightweight and comfortable to wear. A stunning Victorian set, it is perfect for any tortoise shell lover or collector!
Measurements: Each earring hangs approximately 3" long and is 1 1/8" at the widest point. The pin measures approximately 2 1/4" long and is 1 1/2" at the widest point. Each carved tortoise shell piece measures between 1/16" and 1/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the set is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there are no apparent chips, scratches, or other damage to the carved tortoise shell. The clasped earring wires and pin clasp are secure and in good working condition.
