Victorian Huge Sterling Carved Ivory & Citrine Horn Pendant
A fabulous and very substantial piece from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This huge horn pendant is hand carved from ivory into a smooth, curved shape. Its stylish shape could also be interpreted as a large tooth, claw, or tusk. At the top is a decorative sterling silver cap, which holds a magnificent citrine stone set within the center. The faceted citrine rests in a pinch bezel setting, and its golden yellow color is simply beautiful! A fantastic etched design covers the edges of the sterling cap with a swirled, scrolled motif. At the top of the piece is a large sterling ring for hanging, and a small silver nub at the base suggests that the piece could have originally been converted from a large Victorian pin. This wonderful statement piece would look fabulous hanging from a long sterling chain!
Measurements: The pendant hangs 3 1/2" long (including the ring at the top). The horn itself measures 3" tall, 1 1/8" wide at the top, and 3/4" thick. The citrine stone measures approximately 1" by 3/4".
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting, carved ivory horn, or citrine stone, which is intact. The ring for hanging is secure and in good condition.
