Victorian Large Gold-Filled Agate & Mother of Pearl Anchor Locket/Pendant

SKU: 39857

An incredible agate and mother of pearl locket pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This impressive piece is carved from a solid piece of agate, and is quite substantial in size. The agate is smoothly polished for a glossy, rich dark finish and has a circular section of faint brown, tan, and white banding. Adorning the center of the agate plaque is a large anchor which is carved from mother of pearl, and riveted into the surface. The mother of pearl has a lovely iridescent quality with colorful hues of deep pink, green, purple and brown that catch the light beautifully. There is a small inscription etched into the surface of the anchor towards the bottom which is difficult to read; please refer to images. On the reverse side of the piece is a glass window set within a gold filled frame. The frame opens to reveal an open compartment, perfect for storing a special photograph inside. The piece hangs from a large jump ring at the top, and would look wonderful paired with a complimentary chain. A fantastic Victorian piece, it would make a wonderful addition to any collection!

Measurements: The piece hangs approximately 2 1/4" long (including the bail at the top). The oval-shaped agate plaque measures approximately 1 7/8" tall, 1 1/2" wide, and 1/4" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the locket pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the agate plaque, which is free of chips or scratches. The jump ring and locket frame are secure, and the glass window is intact. The carved mother of pearl anchor is intact and securely set.
