Victorian 14kt Carved Lava Cameo Earring & Pendant Set
An absolutely incredible hand carved lava set from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This wonderful ensemble consists of a very large pendant and complimentary pair of earrings, both set in 14kt yellow gold. The pendant is oval in shape and very substantial in size, featuring an incredibly detailed three-dimensional carving on the surface. In the center is a cherub with feathered wings holding a harp in booth hands. Slung over its shoulder is a quiver of arrows, and a basket rests at its forearm. Curled ringlets peak out from under its wide brimmed hat, and a shroud of fabric is wrapped around its waist. Beneath the cherub is a sweet lamb sitting on the ground. The earrings display a very similar design and hang from cameo portrait toppers, creating a dramatic look. All of the carved lava cameos have a wonderful beige color and are set within smooth gold bezels. The pendant hangs from a large bail at the top, and the earrings hang from simple wires. This gorgeous Victorian set shows exemplary craftsmanship and would make a very special addition to any collection!
Measurements: The pendant hangs 2 1/2" long, measures 1 1/2" wide, and approximately 7/8" thick. Each earring hangs approximately 1 7/8" long, is 3/4" at the widest point, and 3/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the set is very good. The lava cameos are very well-preserved with no apparent chips or scratches. Besides normal surface wear, the pendant shows some minor damage to the back of the gold bezel on one side, as shown in the accompanying images. However, it is not visible when worn. Both the bail and earring wires are very secure and in good condition.
