Victorian Sterling & 14kt Diamond Horseshoe Locket
A wonderful horseshoe locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This beautiful oval-shaped locket is made of sterling silver and carries a simple yet attractive design. Set on the face of the locket is a 14kt yellow gold lucky horseshoe, which is detailed with 7 studs to represent nails (always 7 for good luck!). Each nail is made of platinum and holds a delicate old Single cut diamond, adding a subtle sparkle. The locket opens to reveal two glass-covered spaces to store special photographs inside. At the top of the piece is a fluted sterling bail, making it easy to hang and wear from a chain. This fabulous locket is ideal for everyday wear, and is perfect for the equestrian enthusiast or lover of Victorian jewelry!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 2 3/8" long, is 1 3/8" wide, and 1/2" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting or gold horseshoe, and the platinum and diamond studs are all intact. The locket opens easily and closes securely, and the bail is in good working condition. One of the glass frames inside is cracked and missing a section, but can still hold a stored photograph, or could be replaced if desired. An old photograph and lock of hair are still stored inside, though they could be easily removed.
