Product Details

Bohemian garnet jewelry dates back to the 19th century. During this time, garnets were one of the most popular types of stones used in jewelry production. The garnets were often placed close together in an effort to produce a more pronounced color and brightness than when they were set singularly. Most often, bohemian garnet jewelry was set in a closed back setting made of rose gold gilt over silver; this method is sometimes referred to as 'garnet gold'.

An absolutely gorgeous and unusual Bohemian garnet locket and chain from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This gold-filled necklace is comprised of a heart-shaped locket that hangs from a complimentary garnet link chain. The front surface of the locket is completely encrusted with faceted garnet stones, which have a fiery deep red color and catch the light beautifully. The back of the locket has a glass door that opens at the side, revealing space to store a special photograph inside. At the top of the piece is a complimentary garnet bail that hangs from a beautiful garnet link chain. The necklace fastens with a spring ring clasp in the back. A real beauty, this stunning locket has a sweet and feminine look, and would be perfect for the lover of garnets!

Measurements: The locket hangs 2" long (including the bail), is 1" wide and 3/8" thick. The chain measures 16.5" long.

Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold-filled setting or to the bohemian garnet stones, all of which are intact. The locket opens easily and stays closed securely, and the glass door is intact. There is some minor damage to some of the prongs within the chain, however the garnet stones are all intact. The spring ring is secure and in good working condition.
