Early Victorian Dutch Silver Repousse Devil Skeleton Key Pendant
A fabulous key pendant from the Early Victorian (ca1814-1865) era! Crafted in .833 silver, this gorgeous Dutch-made piece is particularly large in size and forms the shape of an old fashioned skeleton key with an orate floral handle and a long barrel shaft. The small face of a devil rests at the top of the handle in between the wreath-like floral design. The bottom of the key features a cutout pattern and several hallmarks, including one of double swords indicating the silver fineness and that it was assayed in the Netherlands between 1814-1865, with an additional touch mark appearing on the barrel shaft of the ring. At the top of the key is a large silver ring, allowing the pendant to be easily hung and worn on a chain. This beautiful piece has excellent craftsmanship and would make a very special addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The key pendant hangs 3 5/8" long and is 1/4" thick. The handle measures 1 1/8" wide, and the barrel shaft is 3/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the key pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver and the bail is secure.
