Victorian Sterling & Rose Gold Horseshoe Locket
A fabulous mixed metals locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Made of sterling, the locket is oval in shape and has an attractive three dimensional horseshoe design on the front surface. The design features a textured sterling background in the concave center of the piece and along the edges of the horseshoe are 7 (always 7 for good luck!) raised rose gold overlay nail accents. The back of the locket has a smooth, sterling surface and the top of the locket has a silver loop that hangs from a sterling bail, allowing it to be worn on a chain. The piece is hinged and opens to reveal space to store one of your favorite photographs behind glass; the original photograph still remains, however, it could easily be removed. A wonderful and very attractive piece, it would look fantastic hung on a silver Victorian chain. This beautiful locket would be perfect for the equestrian enthusiast, and would make a lovely addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs 1 5/8" long, is 1" wide and is slightly more than 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is good. There is some wear to the underside of the locket, including several dings, however, this is not seen when the locket is worn. In addition, some of the rose gold overlay on the nails has been worn off. The bail is intact, and the piece opens easily and stays securely closed.
