Victorian Sterling Silver Buckle & Leaf Locket
A fabulous sterling locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! The gorgeous piece is ornately detailed with a raised buckle motif and hand-etched floral accents. In the center of the locket is a 3-dimensional buckle and strap, which is surrounded by textured detail. An etched leaf-like design covers the background, separated by applied wirework accents and repousse work. When opened, the locket reveals a hollow interior where special photographs could be kept inside. The back of the piece is left simple and smooth, and is stamped with a small maker's mark that reads "M.B." At the top is a fluted bail which is perfect for hanging from a heavy Victorian chain. This locket is particularly large in size and a beautiful example of Victorian artistry. It would make a great addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 1 5/8" long, including the bail at the top. The oval locket itself measures 1 7/8" tall, 1 1/2" wide, and 5/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver setting, etched accents, or to the buckle design in the center. The bail at the top is intact and securely attached, and the locket opens easily and snaps securely shut. There is a natural patina on the surface of the silver, which is normal for Victorian era jewelry and adds to its unique character and appearance.
