Victorian English Sterling Silver Horseshoe + Hoof Locket
A fabulous horseshoe locket from the late Victorian (ca1901) era! Crafted in sterling silver, this wonderful piece portrays the shape of a 3-dimensional horseshoe surrounding an ornate hoof impression. A textured surface adorns the center of the design and seven raised nails line the edges of the shoe. The reverse side is smoothly polished and the locket is hinged and opens from the side, revealing a space inside to store a special photograph or small keepsake. Several English hallmarks are stamped on the back, including an anchor (representing that it was assayed in Birmingham), a lion, the letter "b" (the date letter for 1901), and the maker's initials "J.H."The locket hangs from a simple silver bail at the top and would look wonderful worn on a favorite sterling chain. Perfect for the equestrian enthusiast, this Victorian era piece would make a lovely addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs a little less than 1 1/4" long (including the bail at the top). The locket itself measures 1 5/8" tall, 1 1/4" wide, and 3/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver setting. The hinged piece opens easily and stays securely closed, and the bail for hanging is secure and in good condition.
