Victorian Sterling Silver Swirled Compass Pendant
A wonderful antique compass pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This decorative piece is made of sterling silver and holds a round compass in the center. The frame is comprised of a smooth bezel with a swirled filigree topper. Both sides of the compass have a brass colored border with the letter abbreviations for directional purposes. A beveled glass window on both sides holds the arrow and border in place. Stamped on the base of the setting are several small hallmarks, including "WFG," an anchor, a lion, and the letter "m." Engraved detail decorates the surmount, and the piece is attached to a simple jump ring for hanging at the top. This lovely Victorian piece would look perfect on a chain, or could be attached to a special charm bracelet or necklace!
Measurements: The pendant hangs 1 1/2" long (including the bail for hanging), measures 1" wide, and is 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is very good. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting, and the compass is intact. The glass has a few very light scratches on one side, which are minor and not noticeable when worn. There is a natural darkened patina present on the surface of the silver, which gives it an antiqued appearance. The ring for hanging is secure and soldered shut.
