Victorian Sterling Silver Whimsical Dog Whistle Fob

SKU: 40152

A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself, making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. The fob would have been used to seal the wax of a letter or note.

A wonderful dog whistle fob/pendant from the late Victorian (ca1900) era! Made of sterling silver, this unusual piece forms the shape of a whimsical dog's head whose neck carries into a whistle mouthpiece. The design is beautifully detailed, with deep, textured fur, a short snout, charming facial features and 2 black and golden glass eyes which represent its eyes. Adding to the unique design is a delightful derby style hat which sits atop the dogs head, a detail that gives the pup a whimsical and endearing appearance. The piece is hollow and lightweight and the whistle is fully functioning. The fob/pendant hangs from a fluted sterling bail that is attached at the top of the hat and the whistle mouthpiece is stamped "STERLING". It would look marvelous worn on a silver chain and would be a perfect piece for any fob collector or hunting enthusiast!

Measurements: The whistle fob/pendant hangs 1 3/4" long, is 5/8" wide and 3/4" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the whistle fob/pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage or dings to the silver or eyes and the whistle is fine functioning condition.
