Victorian Sterling Tire Track Wirework Locket
A marvelous sterling silver locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This fabulous oval-shaped sterling locket is particularly large in size and ornately detailed. In the center of the piece is a raised "tire track" design, which is bordered by rows of intricate wirework in a twisted rope and Etruscan style. At the top of locket is a large complimentary bail, which carries a matching textured design. The back of the locket has a simple smooth surface. When opened, the interior of the piece reveals two spaces inside to store special photographs behind glass. A beautiful example of Victorian artistry, it has a wonderful look and would make an incredible addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs 2 1/4" long (including the bail), measures 1 3/8" wide, and is 3/8" at the thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting or textured design on the front. There is some normal surface wear to the silver on the back of the locket, which is minimal and not unusual for a Victorian piece. The locket closes easily and securely, and the bail is secure and intact.
