Vintage Hand Carved Bone Floral Link Bracelet

SKU: 38968

Antique jewelry made from carved bone was very popular during the Victorian era (ca 1880). Bone is a hard material from the skeleton of most vertebrate species, but the variety mainly used in jewelry is from such animals as the wild boar or wild hog. It was used to imitate ivory, which was more expensive.

This vintage hand-carved bone bracelet is simply beautiful! An unusual artisan piece, the design is comprised of multiple panel links, which are strung on clear elastic thread to form a flexible bracelet. Each link is intricately hand-carved with a feminine floral motif, complete with lacy cutouts and fine engraved texture. The central link is large and oval in shape, resting prominently at the wrist to make a striking statement. A naturally beautiful piece, the bracelet would make a wonderful addition to any collection!

Measurements: The inside of the bracelet (where a wrist would rest) has an inner diameter of approximately 2" across, though the flexible design of the piece allows it to stretch and adjust to a larger wrist. The oval-shaped centerpiece measures 1 3/4" tall and 1 1/4" wide. Each panel link graduates slightly in size, the largest measuring 1" long and 5/8" tall, and the smallest measuring 3/4" long and 1/2"  tall.

Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the hand carved bone links, which are free of any significant chips or scratches. The stringing is tight and secure, and all links are intact.
