WEISS Retro Bakelite Aurora Borealis Rhinestone Bracelet
Bakelite is a resin material that was produced in the early 1900's and was the first plastic substance made of synthetic components. Initially used for its electrically non-conductive and heat resistant properties in radio and telephone castings, the material was also used in other products such as kids' toys, kitchenware and jewelry. Typically made of bright, beautiful colors, Bakelite has become very collectible over recent years and is appreciated amongst many.
This fabulous Bakelite bracelet from the Retro (ca1940) era is a signed Weiss piece! The bracelet is made of beautiful sky blue colored Bakelite, and has a "clamper" style design with the original silver hinge on one side. Set within the front surface of the piece is an array of bright Aurora Borealis rhinestones, which have a beautiful iridescent shimmer and sparkle perfectly in the light. The opposing side has a smooth sky blue surface with a polished finish. The inside of the hinge is stamped with the "WEISS". This fantastic Retro bracelet is perfect for any Bakelite lover would make a fun addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The wrist opening of the bracelet measures approximately 2 1/8" wide and 2" tall. The surface of the bracelet measures 7/8" wide and is approximately 3/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the Bakelite or rhinestones, all of which are intact. The silver clamper hinge is secure and in good working condition.
